Steve Heywood
Born in Hereford but bred in Worcester, it is said (by his mum) that the first song he sang was Catch a falling star (and pit it I your pocket). Since those early years, his knowledge of music has grown a little bit more but still he can’t sing so he used his knowledge to present his music. Joining Worcester Hospital Radio (as Choice was called at the time), his first love of music as soul, but doing many request shows where a lot of country music was requested, his musical tastes changed (though he still likes soul music). Country music in Steve’s head was implanted and still remains. His favourite artists are Trisha Yearwood, Paul Overstreet and Alan Jackson (all country). The song he wished he had written is Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound Of Silence. His current favourite songs are Lonestar’s Not a day goes by and Phyllis Hyman’s Loving you, losing you. Steve gets a real buzz knowing that playing a patient’s request can really lift their spirits while being in hospital. It is the patient request which is the most important part of his show. At the same time as doing various shows on Choice, he is also now a star of Classic Hits 1530/954 in Worcester where he presents a country music show each Sunday night for three hours. And if that weren't enough, Steve also gets involved in mad capers like marathon broadcasts and karaoke...
